I am one of Ireland’s original, best, and most experienced Humanist celebrants. My weddings are warm, unique, deeply personal, and professionally managed. All you have to do is show up, relax, and get married!
There’s no fixed script; the two of you choose every word spoken on the day. I’ll send you clear information about each part of the ceremony and go through it in detail with you. Simply pick the words that speak to you both, and I’ll do the rest. Most ceremonies include a welcome and introduction, a little about your story, words on love and marriage (plenty of romance with a dash of pragmatism!), one or two ceremonial elements, poetry, the exchange of vows and rings, and the signing of the Register. All Humanist celebrants are HSE-regulated Legal Solemnisers, and we conduct weddings seven days a week.
I’ll be totally honest, most couples don’t write their own vows, and that’s perfectly fine. If you want to write them, I’m here to help (a few happy tears only add to the atmosphere!). Prefer not to? I have a thoughtful selection of ready-made vows you can adapt to suit yourselves.

I’ve curated a wide collection of poems and readings over 18 years as a professional Humanist celebrant, from traditional to contemporary, from deeply romantic to delightfully funny. Most couples choose two or three pieces, often read by family and friends.
If you’d like to include one or two rituals, I’ll guide you with plenty of inspiration: handfasting, candle-lighting, sand ceremony, ring-warming, wine ceremony, time-capsule, rose ceremony, oathing stone, bread and salt, and more. I’m always open to new ideas and everything can be adapted. There are no rules; your ceremony is designed to suit your personalities.
Live music adds wonderful atmosphere and musicians can also play while guests are taking their seats. From string quartets to contemporary singers, classical guitar to traditional Irish music, harp to gospel choir, choose what suits your vibe. If recorded music works better, I’ll advise on timings and flow. I can also recommend musicians if you’re not sure where to begin.

Ceremonies often take place in the hotel where your reception is held, but restaurants, art galleries, ruined churches, and iconic spaces like Dublin City Hall are all beautiful options. Indoor or outdoor is possible (outdoors must be within the grounds of a building that could host the ceremony if it rains). Venues should generally be open to the public (private homes aren’t suitable). Most wedding ceremonies last about 25–30 minutes and include readings, a ceremonial element, and, of course, the exchange of vows and rings. As a Legal Solemniser, I ensure the Marriage Registration Form — yes, the bright green folder , is signed on the day.
“Emma, We would just like to reach out and sincerely thank you for being a monumental part of our big day. We received nothing but fantastic feedback from your ceremony and we were absolutely delighted with it ourselves. Couldn’t have asked for a better person to officiate!
You’ll be delighted to know that many of our friends have asked for your details in hope of getting you to officiate their big day – when the time comes. As such, it sounds like it won’t be too long until we meet again. Until then, just another massive thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your help and warmth. You made everything so easy and enabled us to focus on having an amazing day.”
“Dearest Emma, we are still floating on air after our wedding! I wanted to get in touch to say thank you so so much for the wonderful job you did celebrating our wedding. You made the day so special, and we really felt that you brought joy, and gravitas to the occasion while also creating a very relaxed atmosphere.
We are so glad that we asked you to be our celebrant. Thank you for making our ceremony so personal and for reacting so positively to our children and their needs. Many of the guests thought that you were a close friend because the ceremony was so tailored to us and I think that speaks volumes to the amount of preparation you did and the connection you created on the day. We could not have asked for a better ceremony, it was everything we wanted and more”,
“Hi Emma, we got back from honeymoon last night and I wanted to take the opportunity to send an email today to say thank you so very much for doing our ceremony. Everyone commented on how amazing you were - how you must’ve known us for years with how the service went. The amount of resources you gave us, your guidance and communication was much appreciated and we genuinely couldn’t have done it without you. When you met me outside the ceremony room you really grounded me in enjoying the moment and all my nerves settled - I really appreciated that. Thanks again for everything.”
“Dear Emma, we just wanted to drop you an email to thank you so much for officiating our marriage ceremony. It was even more than we had hoped for, and it was our favourite part of the day, in no small part due to you. Every single guest, on the day or in the days after, commented on how warm and friendly you were and you certainly made us all feel at ease throughout and brought a lovely relaxed atmosphere to the proceedings.
It is the part of the day that we ourselves keep referring back to and I know that we will both remember our marriage ceremony for the rest of our lives, as one of the best moments of our lives together. We were very lucky to have you involved in the day and you look fab in all the photos!!!”
“Emma, we just wanted to say a huge thank you for helping us celebrate our day back in April. We got our video back and we got to see again the fun you brought to the ceremony. We've had so many of our guests comment on how the ceremony was beautiful and how you really helped to make it enjoyable. We love that you encouraged the banter and kept us laughing throughout!”.
“Dear Emma, we would like to thank you so much for our beautiful ceremony on Friday. It exceeded our expectations and dreams. You were amazing and every person I talked to that day spoke very highly of you and commented on what an amazing ceremony it was.
Thank you from they bottom of our hearts our special day wouldn't have been the same without you”.
“Hi Emma, apologies it has taken me so long to send this email. We are just back from honeymoon and had quite literally shut ourselves away from the world and turned off all phones and laptops for the past couple of weeks!
I just want to relay a huge thank you from both myself and B for the beautiful ceremony on the 24rd August. We could not have asked for it to have been more perfect and more US!
So many of our guests mentioned how lovely it was and how fantastic you are.. which is not something you come away from many other weddings thinking! Thank you so so much for being part of our big day! It has been an absolute pleasure working with you over the past few months!”
“Hi Emma, where do we begin ........We are so glad we chose you to be our celebrant. You made us feel special from the moment we met you.
Guests loved you, they loved your funky shoes, they loved your presence, they heard every word you said, Baby Louise didn’t phase you, you were sweet to the girls ...... comments go on. Some guests had never experienced a humanist wedding before and were totally captivated by it. We wish to thank you for making our wedding truly magical and meaningful.”
A Humanist wedding places you — the couple — at its heart. I look forward to working with you as we craft a ceremony that’s honest, relaxed, and completely yours.
